Information about RM Project and Art Therapy support groups for those affected by Woolsey Fires:

Revitalizing Minds Project is a mental health practice dedicated to improving the quality of life by combining alternative with conventional therapeutic approaches to mental health. RM Projects wants to give back during this time of emotional need by offering these services for FREE.

People who have experienced any violence, injury, or harm are susceptible to being traumatized, which leads to long lasting effects with out professional help. Often times being traumatized can develop into posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which can happen as early as the first few week after the event.

Common symptoms of PTSD:

-Intrusive thoughts or memories of the event

-Nightmares and sleep disturbances

-Avoidance of any reminders of the event

-Negative thinking or mood since the event happened

-Lasting feelings of anxiety or physical reactions (exaggerated startle response)

-Hypervigilance

-Emotional outbursts (younger children may have more tantrums)

-Problems concentrating

Art therapy uses creative mediums like drawing, painting, coloring, and sculpture. Trauma is experienced without words. For PTSD recovery, art provides an outlet when words fail. Integrating art into therapy addresses a person’s entire experience, which is critical with PTSD.

Groups will be held on Sundays at 11am and 1pm for 8 weeks starting January 13th.
